- Trading Standards get scams too! One of our team has reported that she commented on a facebook page and within an hour had received 2 Whatsapp messages purporting to be a recruitment company offering help with getting a job, shortly followed by a text saying “Hi mum – I’ve broken my phone can you help me?” Not usually being one to receive many scam calls it seems apparent that the facebook comment led to these contacts. It shows how careful you have to be when engaging on social media. Ironically the message was warning users about clicking on links in posts!!! Both messages were reported and the numbers blocked
- Another warning about rogue traders. We have received a report from a resident that was at his parents when 2 of them knocked the door and tried to cut their hedge for £400. Afterwards he spoke to some of the neighbours and they had been offered the same service for as much as £800. PLEASE do not engage with anyone on the doorstep, no matter how legitimate they may look, wearing work gear, logos and names on clothing and vehicles, they will NOT be genuine traders, will most likely do a poor job and charge you extortionate amounts for the work.
